WHY THIS WORK MATTERS
Touring musicians navigate a set of pressures that are rarely visible from the outside. Constant travel, disrupted sleep, performance demands, financial uncertainty, and extended time away from home. Over time, these conditions place sustained stress on the nervous system and body, often without adequate space to rest or recover.
THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL TOLL
-A study of 1,154 international touring professionals found that 39.4% demonstrated high scores for suicidality and over half were at risk for clinical depression. (PubMed, 2021)
-Surveys reveal that 68 – 73% of professional musicians experience symptoms of anxiety or depression. (Berklee Online, 2024)
-Nonprofits like Backline have provided over 1,600 personalized care plans for artists seeking mental-health support. (Backline, 2024)
-47% of artists report significant anxiety tied directly to financial pressures and touring costs. (MusiCares, 2024)
THE FINANCIAL COST OF TOURING
-Even for established acts, touring has become increasingly difficult to sustain. Rising transportation, lodging, and living costs mean that many musicians operate at or below break-even.
-Fuel prices have risen nearly 40% since 2019
-Van or bus rentals often exceed $1,500–$2,000 per week
-Hotel costs in mid-size U.S. markets average $175–$280 per night
-After expenses, many independent musicians report net earnings below minimum wage
-Short regional tours can require $10,000–$15,000 in upfront costs
The result is a familiar cycle: artists push through exhaustion because stopping feels financially impossible. Rest becomes postponed, then rationed, then inaccessible.
WHERE
COMES IN
TogetherHouse exists to support artists before burnout becomes crisis.
We offer somatic, nervous-system-informed wellness experiences that meet artists in the midst of touring life without requiring them to carry the financial burden of care. Our programming focuses on regulation, restoration, and embodied presence through practices like movement, meditation, nourishment, and body-based support.
This work is not therapy, and it is not crisis intervention.
It is preventative, relational, and grounded in the body, creating moments of pause within an otherwise relentless pace.
TogetherHouse is a Colorado registered charitable organization with a 501(c)(3) application currently under IRS review.
